Scheme to make city kerosene-free
Delhi is set to become the first kerosene-free city in the country with the city government all geared up to launch an ambitious scheme on Tuesday under which 3.56 lakh households will get LPG cylinder and a gas stove free of cost. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit had announced the scheme in her budget speech after the government came to a conclusion that subsidised kerosene does not reach intended beneficiaries and often ends up in the black market and is used in adulteration.

India's food subsidy grew by 300%, says IIM-A study
AHMEDABAD: Food subsidies have grown by more than 300 per cent in a period of six years between 2006-07 and 2011-12, says a study by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). According to the study, food subsidies increased from Rs 2,850 crore in 1991-92 to about Rs 72,823 crore in 2011-12, an increase of over 25 times in 21 years. As a result, its share in total central government subsidies under non-planed expenditure increased from 23.3 per cent to 33.7 per cent.

Delhi Cabinet nod for food cash transfer scheme
Government will incur an expenditure of Rs.150 crore The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved implementation of “Dilli Annashree Yojana”, which was announced in the State Budget 2012-13 and seeks to provide food security to two lakh vulnerable households not covered under the Below Poverty Line and Antodaya Anna Yojana schemes through cash transfers of Rs.600 per month each.

Rajasthan seeks Rs 7.4k crore aid to tackle ‘drought’
JAIPUR: To deal with the drought-like situation in Rajasthan, the state government has demanded Rs 7,424 crore from the Centre as well 27 lakh metric tones of wheat. The memorandum presented before the Central government is interim and includes the relief work for only 26 districts. The call on the other seven will be taken after the Girdawari. In the memorandum, the state has asked the Centre to provide Rs 2,500 crore under MNREGA.

Five bio-mass power projects to be set up in Haryana
The Haryana Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four independent power producers for setting up five bio-mass power projects of 51 MW capacity involving an investment of Rs. 230 crore. Senior officers said on Tuesday that out of these, two projects are likely to be commissioned soon. The annual budget of the Renewable Energy Department had increased tremendously over the years and was pegged at Rs. 42.43 crore for 2012-13, they added.

Government to conduct fresh survey of tribal population
PANJIM: The State government on Tuesday disclosed plans for conducting a fresh survey of the Tribal population in Goa that would facilitate implementation of schemes and disbursement of benefits for this backward section of society. Minister for Tribal Welfare Ramesh Tawadkar stated that the survey conducted almost a year ago to enumerate the tribal population was not correct, while speaking during Question Hour.
