Mizoram allocates Rs 410 crore to end jhum cultivation
Aizawl: Under its New Land Use Policy (NLUP), Mizoram is laying emphasis on ending the age-old jhum shifting cultivation and has allocated Rs 410 crore in this year’s budget to enable about 30,000 more tribal families to shift to stable farming, a minister said on Tuesday. “In this year’s State budget, Rs 370 crore has been earmarked for the execution of the NLUP. Under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana, Rs 40 crore has also been sanctioned for the same NLUP,” Mizoram Finance Minister H Liansailova told the State Assembly during its on-going budget session.

25 per cent of shoreline affected by sea erosion: water resources department
PANJIM: In an official admission of the gradual devastation of the Goa coastline, the Water Resources Department in its Performance Budget presented before the Goa legislative assembly has admitted that 25 per cent of state’s shoreline is affected with erosion caused by the sea. The document tabled on the floor of the House Tuesday has mentioned that 25.02 km shoreline is affected with sea erosion.

Maharashtra OK's housing regulatory Bill
Mumbai The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday passed the Maharashtra Housing (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2012, which seeks to set up what will be the country’s first realty industry regulator. While the Bill is expected to be passed in the Legislative Council during the ongoing session, the law will come into force only following the President’s assent. While the President’s assent could take up to six months, the government of Maharashtra will, in the meantime, draft rules and work towards finalising candidates to be appointed as members of the body.

Two more industrial estates selected for rain water harvesting

Dams to be built across east-flowing rivers: Joseph
To utilise water awarded by Kaveri Tribunal Water Resources Minister P.J. Joseph said the State would expedite steps to draw its share of water under the Kaveri Tribunal Award from the east-flowing rivers Pampar, Bhavani and Kabini. Replying to the discussion on the demands for Budget grants for his department, the Minister said the tribunal had awarded 3 tmc of water from Pampar, 6.07 tmc of water from Bhavani and 21 tmc of water from Kabani. The State was yet to take the benefit of the award.
