A low-intensity earthquake rocked the State around 4-15 pm (IST) today. According to sources in the Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here, the location of the epicenter of the tremor, measured to be 4.9 in magnitude on the Richter Scale, was found to be near Sonitpur district at latitude 26.6 degree North and longitude 92.5 degree East.
The overall flood situation in the State has improved considerably with the improvement in the weather condition, said Water Resources department (WRD) sources here. So far, reports of 18 breaches in the embankments of the Jiadhol-Kumatia in Dhemaji district, Kakoi, Ranganadi, Singara, Dorpang in Lakhimpur district and Brahmajan channel in Sonitpur district have been received.
Japanese encephalitis vaccination campaign in Lakhimpur district concluded after achieving 95.44 per cent of the target. The campaign, which kicked off in Lakhimpur early this month, was extended in which 3, 15, 495 children between the age group of 1 to 15 years were vaccinated throughout the district in 1,522 centres.
