GUWAHATI, Dec 2: After Hajo, bird flu has been confirmed in Mirza, Sarpara, Rangamati, Uparhali ete areas in Palasbari Revenue Circle in Kamrup district. According to Kamrup DC RC Jain, samples of dead birds that had been sent to Bhopal and Pune laboratories tested positive for avian flu.

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Sept 16: The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) was formally inaugurated in Biswanath Development Block under Biswanath Subdivision by the Biswanath SDO Vishal Solanki recently. The programme commenced with the planting of a sapling under social forestation scheme for the year 2008-09 at Farsiati Idgah Maidan at a function, chaired by Kumalia GP president Amizul Haque. An amount of Rs 5 lakh has been allotted for this scheme.

Rampant encroachment on the Kusumtola farm land has raised eyebrows among the people of Naduar in Sonitpur district. It may be noted that to provide shelter to unemployed youths of the area, the Government of Assam had established the farm in the 1980s. More than 200 bighas of land has been alloted to the farm at Borigaon Ghopshar vide dag No. 357/279 and 401/420 of Borbhogia mouza under Naduar circle office.
