Subhash Narayan NEW DELHI RELIANCE Power has zeroed in on Shanghai Electric, a $7-billion electrical and engineering equipment company of China, for sourcing primary equipment for Sasan ultra mega power project (UMPP). The Chinese major, which is planning to enter India in a big way, will supply boilers, turbines and generators (BTG) to the Madhya Pradesh-based UMPP. The supply contract is likely to be signed in the next few days.

With computers zooming in on consumption-related data, the control room is giving impetus to energy audit, for which electricity meters are being installed at all transformers, officials said on Tuesday. The meters are being relocated on poles in a phased manner, power department authorities said.
With the CM putting pressure to ensure that the 1,500 MW power plant at Bawana is completed in time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Power Minister A K Walia has indicated that the plant may soon be granted "mega project status' by the Union Ministry of Power. "There are certain terms and conditions to be met before a power plant can be granted mega project status. We are in discussion with various stakeholders to ensure that these pre-conditions are met,' he said.

He was here to extend an invitation to Congress workers to participate in the "kirtimaan rally' to be addressed by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Kaithal on July 18. He said after the setting up of this substation, power supply to the Kalayat area would be streamlined.
