Power generation goes up
The power generation capacity in the state has risen by 2937 megawatts during the last four years. With an extension unit of Amarkantak thermal power plant becoming critical soon, 210 MW more is going to be added to this capacity. Giving utmost importance to power, the state government has provided MP State Electricity Board and its companies Rs 939 crore as capital investment.

Rain causes outages
Mild rains in some part of the capital led to blackouts in various parts of East and South Delhi on Wednesday. The areas badly affected included South Delhi and East Delhi like Panchsheel Park, R K Puram, Safdarjung, Preet Vihar, Mehrauli, Lakshmi Nagar, Kalyan Puri, Vikas Marg, Patparganj, South Extension. Subsidised power benefits reaching users, says Walia
Delhi Power Minister AK Walia on Wednesday said that the benefit of subsidised electricity on consumption up to 150/200 units per month has started percolating down to the consumers and around 10 lakh consumers have benefited from this scheme during March, 2008. The Delhi Government has released Rs 13 crore for the purpose. Walia was speaking to mediapersons after chairing a weekly power review meeting on Wednesday wherein status of ongoing amnesty scheme was reviewed, apart from the scheme of subsidised electricity on restricting consumption up to 150/200 units per month.

In a meeting of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in Delhi today, the issue of trifurcation of the HPSEB came up, where Shinde is reported to have given the state a free hand on the issue.

Delhi may soon get to choose power supplier!
The Delhi government is set to introduce open access for large power consumers. According to a recent consultation paper by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) for determining the new tariffs, the new power distribution system in the national capital is going to be introduced from July 1. The commission had earlier notified its open access regulations in January 2006. ,> The regulation, primarily for commercial users, allows consumers using more than 1 Mw power to choose their electricity distributor.
