Open Access System Will Allow People To Purchase Power Freely With the Assembly elections approaching, Delhi government has finally empowered Delhiites to choose discoms with a better image in over those with numerous complaints against them in the last six years. The open access system will allow people to take power from the discoms they want, irrespective of where they live. Power department officials said that making the three companies compete with one another is the only way of ensuring good performance.
There are various reasons behind shortage of power including unmindful consumption of energy. Therefore, it is the crying need of the hour and responsibility of everyone to save power. Most of the sources of power generation are dependent on nature's bounty and it is difficult to guess as to what would happen to these sources in the face of increasing global warming and shortage of water and coal in future.
With about 20 biomass-based power projects generating 183 MW at Sirsa, Panipat, Karnal, Hisar, Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Nilokheri, Jagadhari, Khanesar and Dabwali, the people of Haryana can be assured of lesser power cuts. As the projects are being set up at the sites of the load centres, the power supply is expected to increase in these blocks, with transmission losses going down in a big way. Confirming this, officials of Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) said since the state is purchasing massive power from other states, it has to bear huge transmission losses.
UNION Energy Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday assured that the state would get 2000 mw power from the Ultra Mega Power Project to be set up in Ratnagiri in Konkan region. Speaking to the newspersons after attending a stock-taking meeting at Sahyadri guest house on Thursday night, Shinde said he was aware of the acute power shortage faced by the state and would do everything possible to alleviate the same.
70 new 33'11 kva sub stations will be constructed by the East Region Electric Distribution Company in its area under the Japan Bank of International Coordination (JBIC)by August this year. These sub stations will help solve the problem of low voltage in remote areas. These sub stations will be constructed at a cost of Rs 107 crores. The first such sub station was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on April 26 last. Out of the above, 35 will be constructed in Jabalpur, 23 in Rewa and 12 in Sagar districts.
