  • PPA demands reforms in poultry sector

    To ensure revival of poultry sector and to meet the requirements of poultry meat and eggs, the Pakistan Poultry Association has urged the government to immediately undertake policy reforms in poultry sector. The PPA has warned that failure would cause a huge loss to the sector. Chairperson of PPA, Abdul Basit, while giving recommendations for budget 2008, said that the poultry industry bore huge loss of Rs 30.000 billion to Rs 35.000 billion during the 2006-07 due to bird flu rumours.

  • Project costing Rs two billion to curb 'foot and mouth' disease

    Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) will launch a project costing Rs 2 billion to control highly infectious disease 'foot and mouth' that causes Rs 6 to 8 billion loss per annum. Chief Executive of the LDDB, Dr Muhammad Afzal revealed this while talking to Business Recorder here on Tuesday. LDDB Deputy Project Coordinator, Dr Naveed Niazi was also present.

  • Conservation accord signed

    The Sindh livestock and fisheries department has singed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the WWF-Pakistan for a long-term technical and institutional support with regard to conservation of natural resources in the Indus eco-region under the "Indus for All Programme'. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Shoaib Siddiqui said food security was a major challenge and required long-term measures in a country like Pakistan. He said his department would extend full cooperation to the WWF-Pakistan to achieve the objectives.

This was stated by the Secretary, Livestock and Fisheries Department, Government of Sindh, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Department and WWF-Pakistan's Indus for All Programme. Speaking on the occasion, he further said that the Department would extend full cooperation to WWF-Pakistan to achieve the objectives of the MoU.

  • Awareness camp for farmers

    JAMMU: An awareness camp was organized by the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer at village Pangali in Dansal block Jammu today. The farmers form Panglai and adjoining villages took part in the camp and learnt about the scientific methods of rearing and management of livestock ,poultry and conservation of forest and wildlife from the experts of the department.

  • Report: Child viral death toll up to 34 in China

    The death toll from a viral illness that is striking children across China has risen by four to 34, while the number of reported infections jumped to nearly 25,000, state media reported Friday. Two of the latest deaths occurred in the hardest-hit central province of Anhui, where 22 children have already died of hand, foot and mouth disease, the official Xinhua News Agency said. The other two deaths were reported in the southern province of Guangdong and in neighboring Guangxi, the agency said.

  • Livestock farmers to receive vaccination facility

    The Punjab Livestock Department has announced to start a programme on May 15 to save animals from diseases in summer and rainy season. Department Extension Director General Dr Irfan Zahid chairing a department meeting on Monday said animals would get injections fighting various diseases. This campaign will continue till June 15 throughout the province while in the second phase of it, injections will be given to animals from June 16 to September 30.   • NWFP excels in dairy development

    NWFP Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Haji Hidayatullah Khan was told Saturday that the NWFP has surpassed all other provinces of the country in artificial insemination as a result of which the milk production has increased. He was informed about the dairy development in a briefing given to him during a visit to the Directorate of Livestock and Dairy Development by Muqarab Ali Khan, Director Livestock NWFP. Livestock Officers of 24 districts were also present on this occasion.

  • Rs one billion allocated for Fata forests development

    The government has allocated one billion rupees for the development of the forests in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). Federal Minister for Environment, Hameedullah Jan Afridi on Monday announced this while chairing a high level meeting with a five-member delegation of IUCN. The Minister said that a strong monitoring system would be evolved for timely execution of the development projects besides ensuring proper utilisation of funds.
