This study was conducted to assess the safety with special reference to the primary skin irritation, if any, of six samples (Excavated waste, Lime sludge, Naphthol tar (nor Naptho tar), Reactor residues, Semi processed pesticide and Sevin tar) collected from `Stored Toxic Wastes at the former UCIL Plant site at Bhopal".

Toxic textile wastes pollute Louhajang River in Tangail
Untreated toxic waste released from dying and printing units of a textile mill and a yarn dying mill in Tangail Sadar upazila is polluting Louhajang River. The pollution that goes on unabated for several years, now threatens fish, crops and greenery in the area, locals said. The local administration cannot take action against the authorities of the mills for pollution as the mills managed permission from the Directorate of Environment (DoE).

New Tsukiji site highly toxic: panel
The relocation site of the world-famous Tsukiji Fish Market has been contaminated with far more toxic chemical materials than previously thought and around 2 meters of surface soil will probably have to be replaced, an advisory panel to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government said Monday. The metropolitan government is planning to relocate the market by 2013 to the Toyosu area of Koto Ward because the Tsukiji site has become too crowded and facilities there have aged. Gov. Shintaro Ishihara indicated the relocation plan could be delayed due to the contamination problem.

Lawmakers Back Watered-Down "Green Crime" Law
European Union lawmakers backed a watered-down law on "green crime" on Monday that would make dumping toxic waste or illegally transporting hazardous materials a criminal offence throughout the bloc. The draft law obliges the EU's 27 member states to treat and punish as criminal acts a list of nine offences ranging from harming protected plants or species to unlawful trade in ozone-depleting substances. But it does not set EU-wide sanctions to the dismay of environmentalists who doubt it will have much impact.

The parents of the toxic industrial waste's victims have moved the Sindh High Court to annul a district and sessions' court order on March 26 that acquitted a factory owner and others in a case pertaining to dumping of highly toxic industrial waste in an open area in Site Town, which claimed the lives of two children and caused injuries to 15 others.

Ivory Coast Arrests Suspect In Toxic Waste Case IVORY COAST: April 7, 2008 ABIDJAN - Ivory Coast has arrested the head of the local company which unloaded and dumped toxic waste in Abidjan nearly two years ago, leading to the deaths of 16 people, a judge familiar with the case said on Friday. Salomon Ugborugbo, director of the Ivorian waste handling firm Tommy which unloaded the toxic slops from the ship Probo Koala in August 2006 and dumped them at sites around Abidjan, was arrested on Thursday and is being held pending trial, the judge said.
