Institutional set up
Forest-Users' Group (FUG): It comprises households using or dependent on forest resources. They are identified by the district forest officer (DFO) after a house-to-house survey to check their dependence on the forest.
Once the users' group is identified, it charts its own constitution (a five-year plan) for the management and protection of forests. Following this, the DFO hands over the forest to users' group.
Executive Committee: Consists of 10 to 15 members depending on the size of the FUG. The executive committee is elected at a general body meeting of the FUG. It looks after the day-to-day management of the forest.
Sub-committee: If the FUG is big in size, sub-committees are formed to look after different activities.
