Draft Central Motor Vehicles Amendment) Rules, 2023
The government has issued draft notification on Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), which proposes awarding 'Star Ratings' to automobiles based on their performance in crash tests. The government aims to implement the programme from October 1, 2023. "The BNCAP shall be applicable on the type approved vehicles of category M1 of gross vehicle weight less than 3.5 tonne, manufactured or imported, as specified in the programme," the draft notification issued by Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways said.
