Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding migrant and unorganised workers in India, 31/01/2023
Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of 'In Re Problems and Miseries of Migrant Labourers' dated 31/01/2023.
The SC was informed that out of the estimated 38.37 crores migrants to be registered on e-Shram portal - a total of 28.55 crores migrants are already registered. Further, those 28.55 crore migrants who are already registered on the e-Shram portal would be entitled to the schemes floated by the Central Government and concerned state governments and also under National Food Security Act.
The SC said that the data collected on e-Shram Portal is to be now used for the betterment of the migrants and the unorganised workers and mere registration must not be sufficient. The SC directed the Union of India and the state governments to furnish particulars - that out of 28.55 crores migrants/unorganised workers registered on e-Shram Portal are having the ration cards or not or whether all of them are given the benefits of food under the National Food Security Act or not.
The matter was next put up for February 28, 2023.
