Judgement of the Supreme Court of India regarding schemes to alleviate the sufferings of the migrant labourers/workers, 29/06/2021
The Supreme Court of India June 29, 2021 directed all states and Union territories (UT) to implement the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme for the benefit of migrant workers by July 31, 2021. It also asked them to bring in an appropriate scheme for distribution of dry ration to migrant labourers till the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic lasts.
Judgement of the Supreme Court of India 'In Re: Problems and Miseries of Migrant Labourers' in the matter of Bandhua Mukti Morcha Vs Union of India & Others dated 29/06/2021. The matter related to the plight of migrant labourers due to Covid-19 lockdown. The SC directed the Central Government to develop a portal for registration of the unorganised labourers/migrant workers.
The work on the portal for the National Data Base for Unorganised Workers (NDUW Project) has to be completed by July 31, 2021 and the Central Government and the respective states and union territories must complete the process of registration of the unorganized labourers/migrant workers by December 31, 2021.
The Central Government, Department of Food and Public Distribution (Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution) has been asked to allocate and distribute foodgrains as per demand of additional food-grains from the states for disbursement of dry foodgrains to migrant labourers. The states, who have not yet implemented the “One Nation One Ration Card” scheme were directed to implement the same by July 31, 2021, the SC order, June 29, 2021 said.
