Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Aryavart Foundation Vs M/s. The Green Environment Services Co. Op. Society Ltd. (CETP) & Others dated 08/05/2019 regarding Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) located at Vatva near Sabarmati run by the M/s The Green Environment Co. Op. Society Ltd., not being operated as required in terms of the obligations cast upon it in the consolidated Consent and Authorization order.

The inspections carried out by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has found the CETP to be non-compliant consistently. The CETP in question which caters to about 500 industries situated in Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, Vatva has failed to meet the inlet parameters prescribed in CCA, treat the same and to discharge the trade effluents without meeting the outlet parameters. This has resulted in the river Sabarmati being contaminated.

The NGT says that substantial question relating to environment arises in the present application and directs notice to be issued to GPCB and Green Environment Cooperative Society.
