Real-Driving Emissions test procedure for exhaust gas pollutant emissions of cars and light commercial vehicles in Europe
Provides background information and a detailed overview of the RDE legislation, as well as a discussion of its strengths and areas for improvement. Two legislative packages are currently under development to complete implementation of the new real-driving emissions (RDE) test procedure for measuring vehicle emissions in Europe. The goal is to establish a more representative pollution test for cars and light commercial vehicles (vans). The European Union adopted the first two pieces of legislation in 2015. The RDE test will gradually take effect in 2017. It will apply to all new cars by the beginning of 2021 and all new vans by the beginning of 2022. The new procedure will complement the current laboratory certification of vehicles with on-road testing under more realistic real-world conditions.
