Drought emergency in Georgia in the US

Extreme drought has forced authorities to declare state of emergency in Georgia, usa. The emergency was declared in 85 northern counties. "This is the single worst drought in Georgia's history,' said the state's governor Sonny Perdue on October 20. Agriculture has been widely affected in the state.

The crisis was triggered by a sharp decline in rainfall in the south-eastern states in the us. Lake Lanier in Georgia that supplies water to over three million people is drying up. The state has asked the federal government to reduce the water supplied from Georgia's reservoirs to Alabama and Florida. Outdoor watering and washing cars have also been banned in many part of Georgia.
