Music to ears

Superconducting technology is being used in the US to improve noise performance and voice quality of cellular phones. A US-based company, Ameritech Cellular Services, has reported excellent results from the use of a cellular system radio-frequency filter that incorporates superconducting devices. The use of the filter at the cell site has reportedly improved voice signals by more than a third and was 10,000 times more effective at eliminating interference and signal tone. The filter also allowed more cellular phone users to access the system and increased the path range for incoming calls ( Electronics World , March 1996).
