PASSIVE THREAT

The first lawsuit seeking damages for injury suffered through passive smoking in flight cabins began recently in Florida, USA. The case was filed by Norma Broin, a former airline stewardess, who is suffering from lung cancer. A non-smoker herself, she has blamed her illness on her exposure to secondhand smoke during 13 years of her service in aircrafts. Broin is claiming damages on behalf of some 60,000 non-smoking flight attendants who are suffering from lung diseases and other ailments, from tobacco giants such as Philip Morris, RJR Nabisco, the Liggett group, the American Tobacco Group and the Brooke Group Ltd.
