Anti dumping duty on shrimp trade
The Southern Shrimp Alliance (ssa), the us petitioners pushing for the imposition of an anti-dumping duty on the shrimp trade, has filed applications to ascertain whether over 250 Indian shrimp exporters are paying dumping duties.
Indian exporters feel, however, that ssa is making a mockery of the whole exercise, given that only 74 firms have exported to the us during the second review period from February 1, 2006, to January 31, 2007.
ssa has submitted the same old list of exporters to the us department of commerce, which it had submitted during the first review. The list includes companies from India, China, Thailand, Brazil, Ecuador and Vietnam. However, of the firms which ssa wants reviewed, around 10 are de-registered and over 170 stopped exports to the us more than a year ago due to high costs, such as anti-dumping tariff and statutory customs bonds.
