Drivingt out emissions

THE US is slowly coming to grips with one of its biggest environmental hazards: excessive car emissions. From 1994, under the 1990 Clean Air Act, companies with more than 100 employees are legally responsible for the pollution their employees' cars create.

Many companies are, therefore, giving employees incentives to cut down the number of single-occupancy cars they drive to work. Some firms are exploring ways to link up public transport and the ultimate solution, according to experts, may be to locate companies closer to railway or bus stations.
