Fatless can make sightless
Premature deliveries deprive babies of essential fats that are due to them in their last months in the womb. Called omega-threes, these fats are necessary for a normal development of vision. Eileen Birch and her colleagues at the Retina Foundation of the Southwest in Dallas, Texas, US, inform that all babies need these fats for a few months even after birth. And one particular fat belonging to this group called DHA (dehydroacetic acid) is a crucial building block for nerve cell membranes in the retina and brain.
