Online ecojustice
environmental justice is the main theme of a website recently launched by Environmental Defence, a us conservation society. The website www.scorecard.org provides information on how and to what extent low income and discriminated communities bear more than their fair share of the pollution burden. The website lists environmental inequities in each area of the us and allows people to check the distribution of pollution burden in accordance with income, poverty level, job classification and home ownership. Just by typing in a location or zip code of the us , the website lets visitors see who suffers the most from pollution in communities across the country. The website's scorecard reports about releases of toxic chemicals, cancer risks from air pollution and industries that emit air pollutants. "We hope that the website will be used as a foundation to evaluate environmental injustices and help policymakers take legislative action,' said David Roe, an attorney of the society.
