The first two solar power plants in the country will be established on a 50-acre land in Baruthakanda, Hambantota. This area had been declared as a Solar Power Zone. According to Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) Renewable Energy Director Athula Jayatunga, the capacity of proposed two plants are 600kw and 500kw. Japan and Korea are providing assistance for these two plants.
