KOKRAJHAR, May 7: The felling of valuable trees at Ripu and Chirang Reserve Forests in Kokrajhar district and smuggling is continuing unabated despite BTC Forest Department has taken initiatives to check it.
The Asian Waterfowl Census in wetlands of BTAD coinciding with the International Wetland Day recently has revealed interesting data. This year the annual counting exercise was undertaken in Diplai enabling the sighting of 1112 birds, and Sareshwar, where 3258 birds were spotted. In Dhir beel a total 3955 birds were recorded.
KOKRAJHAR, Dec 19: Hundreds of butterflies of different varieties are being killed due to vehicular movement at Bismuri-Sarpang (Bhutan) Road daily, which pass through the thick Chirang Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district, but no measures has been adopted to protect the varied species of butterflies.
KOKRAJHAR, Sept 29: In a major breakthrough, the Bodoland Forest Protection Force of the Forest Department under Kachugaon forest division and local NGOs including Green Forest Conservation and Green Leaf Society unearthed a major illegal timber business recently approximately worth Rs 1 crore in a raid at Jhalabila area under Parbhatjhora subdivision of Kokrajhar district.
