Disruption in power supply and lack of awareness among the farmers have made the existing cold storage facilities of the State ineffective, despite there being a growing demand from the farming community and the intelligentsia for more such facilities. The State has so far two cold storage facilities.
With a view to reducing the technical and commercial loss in power supply to 15 percent, an R-APDRP scheme of Rs. 2216 crore 10 lakh is being implemented in 83 cities having over 30 thousand population in the state. The Power Distribution companies are establishing an IT based metering system for energy audit as well as infrastructure with an aim to reduce the losses.
Gangtok: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved projects to the tune of Rs 78.50 crore in the spheres of education, power and water resources in Sikkim. The costs of the projects will be met from the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) fund administered by the Ministry, a DoNER press release said.
