Death of three children not caused by vaccine, says preliminary report
Two weeks after the death of three children in Mumbai following the administration different immunisation dosages, the committee formed by the state government and BMC health authorities has come out with a preliminary report on the cause of the deaths. According to the doctors in the committee, the deaths were not caused by defective vaccines. "It is not the fault of the vaccines, but again it is difficult to say unless we get the reports of the vaccine samples tests from the Kasauli laboratory,' said Dr Radha Aras, professor and head of preventive and social medicine department.

Toxic chemicals found in game consoles
Greenpeace says the world's most popular electronic game consoles contain high levels of toxic chemicals, though they do not pose an immediate danger to gamers. A report by the environmental watchdog group says Nintendo's Wii, the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 use varying degrees of bromine, PVCs and other potentially harmful chemicals, including phthalates, which can affect human hormones.

198 Pvt hospitals included in Janani Yojana
With a view to increasing the access of safe motherhood and child health services under RCH-2 programme, participation of hospitals of non-government and private sectors is being ensured. The willing private and non-government hospitals are being authorised under the programme after fulfilling the stipulated standards. At the 198 private hospitals included in Janani Sahayogi Yojana, so far 8067 ordinary and 3069 caesarean sections have been conducted. As many as 52 private hospitals were authorised in the year 2006-07.
