ALAPPUZHA: Many of the anthropogenic activities adversely affect marine biodiversity, and the globalwarming which brings about change in the temperature and wind pattern makes ocean difficult for animals to survive, said F G Benno Pereira, coordinator, Conservation Research Group, department of Aquaculture and Biochemistry, St Alberts College.
ALAPPUZHA: Sea gift Exhibition, Alappuzha, in association with PG and Research Department of Zoology, SN College, will organise a seminar on marine biodiversity at SN College Seminar Hall here on Monday. The seminar is sponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). RDC convener, SN College, K P Natarajan will inaugurate the seminar.
Deep inside the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, some 20 km from the fringe of the forest, ten Kani men and six Kani women are engaged in digging a large pond. This is the first work being carried out in a tribal settlement in Thiruvananthapuram district under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
KOCHI: Plastic waste disposal will be smooth once the authorities concerned give their approval to use plastic waste for the construction of roads. As an initial step CREDAI Clean City Movement has tied up with the Kochi Corporation to construct roads using pellets processed from plastic waste generated at the Ravipuram shredding unit.

During the entire week, entry to wildlife sanctuaries and parks in the State will be free. R Ayyappan THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Muduga tribals of the Vettilachola colony spread over 60-odd acres across the Siruvani and Kanjirapuzha forests in Palakkad have gone on the rampage clearing nearly 100 acres of evergreen forest in the catchment area of Kanjirapuzha dam. There is a growing fear that these tribals are being misled into action by extremist outfits.
KOCHI: To tackle the growing septic tank waste, the Kochi Corporation has decided to start two new sewage treatment plants in the city. The tender procedures of the plants, which are to be started in West Kochi and East Kochi areas, have started.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A free Wildlife Film Festival will be organised jointly by Forest Department and Kerala Chalachitra Academy from October 2 to 8 at Kalabhavan Theatre as part of the Wildlife Week celebrations. National and international films will be screened at the festival.
ALAPPUZHA: Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the State Government would spend Rs 450 crore for executing various tourism projects in the State. Kodiyeri was inaugurating a beach beautification project under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme (TRP) at Andhakaranazhi in Cherthala here on Saturday.
