ALAPPUZHA: Health and Social Welfare Minister P K Sreemathi on Tuesday said that the Kerala Pollution Control Board would soon set up a Continuous Ambient Water Quality Monitoring Station (CAWQMS) in the Eloor stretch of the Periyar.

KOCHI: Expressing reservations over taking up the Kochi Metro project on elevated technology, former District Collector K R Rajan has recommended having the metro rail constructed underground. He also urged the government to do more homework on the project and seek the suggestions of experts from across the globe.
M K Sunil Kumar KOCHI: The State Government is planning to launch a scheme on the lines of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) which will assure earnings of around Rs 200 a day to every fisherman. The government is in the process of finalising the project, which is expected to be declared in the 2010-2011 Budget.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Forest Minister Binoy Viswam has said that the LDF Government had succeeded in checking sandalwood theft from Marayur forest range. At present there are 58,418 sandal trees in this forest range and steps have been taken to monitor the situation on a day-to-day basis, he said while speaking to reporters here on Tuesday.
THRISSUR: A meeting of the officials concerned, held under the auspices of the district panchayat, has decided to study the feasibility of removing the sand and clay accumulated in various dams in the district under the Central Government's National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
PALAKKAD: A meeting of the river management committee should be convened to sort out the problems in issuing passes for river sand mining. This was decided at a meeting of the district development committee held here on Saturday. The meeting of the river management committee was being convened in the context of the river sand mafia misusing the passes being issued to the public.
