Analyst warns of $200 crude oil
Crude oil prices could surge to $200 a barrel in the next two years, according to theGoldman Sachs analyst who three years ago correctly predicted a price "super-spike" above $100 a barrel. The warning by Arjun Murti came as oil prices hit a fresh record high above $122 a barrel, boosted by supply disruptions in Nigeria, lower output in Russia and continued robust demand in China ahead of the Olympics. Mr Murti said the energy crisis could be coming to a head as a lack of adequate supply growth was becoming apparent.

LPG price up by Re 1 per kg
Following the increase in CNG prices, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) marketing companies have also raised the price of 11.8 kg cylinder from Rs 510 to Rs 530, effective from May 7. The Chairman of LPG Distributors Association, Hadi Khan, said here on Tuesday that the retail price of LPG has gone up by Re 1 and now it would be sold at Rs 48 per kg in the city. He said that some LPG marketing companies have raised their prices despite the fact that producers are paying a rebate of Rs 11 to Rs 15 to the marketing companies to enhance their turnover.

Close on the heels of President George W Bush's remarks linking Indians' food habits to rising global prices of commodities, the United States has now partly attributed the surge in oil futures to the increased demand in India and China. "There are a lot of different ways that we can reduce our dependence. Also, I would point out that, obviously, the demand for oil is growing around the world," White House Deputy Spokesman Scott Stanzel said in a briefing.

Third increase in CNG prices in four months
The associations of CNG filling stations have increased price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Sindh by Rs 1.25 to Rs 38.25 per kilogram, a move vehemently opposed by the users. CNG Station Owners Association (CSOA) Chairman Malik Khuda Buksh said that the decision had been taken at an emergency meeting of the CSAO and CNG Dealers Association held here on Monday.
