India s nuclear history

In 1999, 2.65 per cent of India's energy was from nuclear power. India first figured on the world nuclear power map in 1969 when General Electric Co of USA set up two reactors in Tarapur, Maharashtra. At present, there are 12 operating nuclear reactors in India and one unit each at Kaiga and Rajasthan is nearing completion. When these are commissioned, the installed nuclear capacity will become 2,720 megawatt.
