Made in India

The Discovery channel is currently working on the promotion of new documentary films from India. As of now, the commissioning of new programmes is being managed entirely by the us headquarters of the channel and very few Indian names like the Bedi brothers, figure on the channel's list of film-makers.

According to Kiran Karnik, the chief operating officer of Discovery in India, "We would like to encourage younger people who are not wellknown internationally, but are talented." Considering the fact that Discovery spends a lot of money on producing each film (as much as US $1 million for a 52-minute documentary), this is certainly good news for Indian film-makers.
