Affidavit filed by the Kumaon Commissioner, Nainital regarding pollution of Naini lake, Uttarakhand, 16/04/2025
Response affidavit on behalf of Kumaon Commissioner, Nainital in the matter of Hemant Singh Gonia Vs State of Uttarakhand & Others dated 16/04/2025. The matter related to contamination of Naini lake from the side of Naina temple. The Nainital Urban Sewerage Scheme under Nainital district is under Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, Nainital.
At present under Nainital Urban Sewerage Scheme, 600 meter sewer line needs to be replaced as the 150 and 200 mm diameter sewer lines are very old and dilapidated in many areas. Apart from this, construction of 37 old damaged sewer manhole chambers and repair of 83 old sewer manholes and raising of covered sewer manhole chambers to the road level in different places under Nainital city, 5.80 km sewer line of 150 to 300 MS diameter and silt cleaning of 380 city sewer manhole chambers are to be done instantaneously. For carrying out the requisite task, a sanction of Rs 73.66 lakh has been given for expenditure by the government of Uttarakhand and an amount of Rs 44.196 lakh has already been released as the first installment.
Additionally, after conducting a comprehensive assessment of the works like replacement of old sewer lines, sewer manhole chambers, under size sewer pipe lines laid for 30-40 years in Nainital city and connecting the residential buildings in Nainital city to sewer lines, a detailed project report of Rs 109 crore has been prepared by the Uttarakhand Drinking Water Corporation. After getting the works provided in the DPR done, the sewerage system will be strengthened in the entire Nainital city.
