Affidavit filed by the Member Secretary, Puducherry Pollution Control Committee in the matter of News Item titled "Pollution Control Boards are the weak link" appearing in Deccan Herald dated 24.1 0.2023.
Three posts are lying vacant in the SPCB. The SPCB assured the court that the three vacancies will be filled up within four months.
To address the manpower shortage, PPCC has taken steps for recruiting 6 technical consultants and 3 scientific consultants through outsourcing. Further, since PPCC does not have any administrative officials to handle the administrative matters, PPCC has proposed to hire 4 retired government officials as consultants for handling administrative and accounts matters. PPCC is also reviewing the manpower and strengthening based on the requirement to address various functions entrusted to PPCC.
The Puducherry Pollution Control Committee (PPCC) laboratory has obtained the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) certification. The government of Puducherry has approved for the construction of an integrated office building and laboratory for the Department of Science, Technology and Environment and Puducherry Pollution Control Committee. Necessary action will be taken to establish an environmental laboratory in accordance with rules. PPCC proposes to strengthen the air and water laboratory for monitoring various notified parameters after the construction of the integrated office building cum laboratory. PPCC has two laboratories, one functioning at Puducherry and the other at Karaikal region of Puducherry.
