Affidavit by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board regarding dumping of garbage in and around Mahim railway station tracks, Maharashtra, 12/12/2024
Additional affidavit on behalf of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board in the matter of a news item appearing in the Press Journal dated April 10, 2024 about disposal of garbage around Mahim railway station's track.
The report stated that platforms and railway tracks were found cleaned during inspection by the SPCB. However, siding tracks were found with huge garbage which were not cleaned. Near the siding yard towards the east side there is a slum area and garbage is thrown from this slum on the railway siding yard as stated by the Railway representative.
The Railway authorities carry out daily cleaning of track and platform, but there is no schedule for stabling yard cleaning. Generated domestic effluent is connected to MCGM drainage and solid waste handed over to MCGM.
Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board informed the Station Superintendent, Mahim Junction, Western Railway, Mahim, Mumbai about the assessment of environment compensation which is to the tune of Rs 1,59,22,550 (Rs One crore fifty nine lakh, twenty two thousand, five hundred and fifty only).
