Guidelines for handling end of life vehicles in public places of Delhi, 2024

The Delhi government issued fresh guidelines for handling end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) in public places. To discourage the use of ELVs, the government has stipulated hefty penalties for owners of impounded vehicles. For four-wheelers, a penalty of Rs 10,000 will be imposed, while two-wheeler owners will have to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000. These penalties must be paid before the release of impounded vehicles. According to the policy guidelines, the owners will have to submit an undertaking that the vehicle will not be plied or parked in any public place, and will be removed from the jurisdiction of Delhi. It aims to phase out old and polluting vehicles from the national capital and ensure proper disposal and recycling of ELVs.
