Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding use of rainwater by DMRC, 24/07/2023
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Harpal Singh Rana Vs Delhi Metro Rail Corporation & Others dated 24/07/2023.
The matter related to discharge of rain water on the road side and the lack of proper methodology and manner of disposal, recharge of water and utilization by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The NGT, July 24, 2023 said that a proper methodology should be developed by the DMRC and authorities concerned to utilize the water and not to throw the water through pipelines on the road. Accordingly, the NGT directed a joint committee comprising the Public Works Department, Delhi; Municipal Corporation, Delhi; DMRC and Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
The committee was directed to submit a technical report with the help of technical officers for developing a methodology/engineered structured model to reuse the water for plantation and recharging of groundwater. The plan should apply to all DMRC pillars, the order added.
