Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) report on the action taken against illegal structures constructed on the beaches of Goa, 12/06/2023
Compliance report by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) in the matter of Goa Paryavaran Savakshan Sangharsh Samitee Vs Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority & Others dated June 12, 2023.
The GCZMA report was in compliance with the National Green Tribunal order, May 12, 2023, whereby GCZMA was directed to complete the entire process of completing the calculation of the environmental compensation to be levied from 148 violators and issuing of necessary directions and submit a report within one month.
That out of the 148 cases there were total of 86 cases of North Goa district and 62 cases of South Goa district.
The matter related to temporary structures constructed along the beaches of Morjim, Mandrem, Galgibag and Agonda without specific permission from GCZMA in No Development Zone (NDZ).
The Goa Paryavaran Savrakshan Sangharsh Samitee, filed an application for execution of the order dated November 02, 2017 passed in Original Application No. 23/2014. The NGT, May 12, 2023 had issued directions to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), to take action against temporary structures constructed along the beaches of Morjim, Mandrem, Galgibag and Agonda without specific permission from GCZMA in No Development Zone (NDZ). The Tribunal had also directed that the compensation be recovered by the GCZMA from those violating the above norms, apart from other incidental directions.
GCZMA passed various orders in respect of the violator who had carried out violations in the Turtle nesting sites at Agonda, Galgibag, Mandrem and Morjim. GCZMA has imposed environment compensation on 42 violators from South Goa for causing environment damages by violating CRZ norms. The environmental compensation was calculated by the constituted committee of GCZMA.
