The matter related to felling of mangrove trees for the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. The petition was filed by Bombay Environmental Action Group and arose out of the final judgment and order dated February 2, 2023 passed by the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court had permitted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to cut 350 mangrove trees for 8-lane Vadodara-Mumbai expressway.
The Supreme Court also allowed felling of 350 mangrove trees and diversion of 0.0785 hectares of mangroves for the Mumbai Vadodara Expressway and directed the continuation of the construction work.
