Draft Insecticide Amendment Rules, 2022

The Ministry of agriculture and farmer’s welfare (MoAFW) on October 27, 2022, issued a notification to further amend the Insecticides Rules, 1971. this has come into force on October 27, 2022. The amendments were made as follows: in sub-rule (1) of rule 19 which states “Manner of labeling” in clause (i) (1) in sub-clause (a), after the bracket, the words “The Brand name shall not be of bigger size than 1.5 times size of the common name” shall be substituted with the words “Equal prominence shall be given to the Brand name and Common name” (2) in sub-clause (w), after the first proviso, the following proviso shall be inserted: “Provided that QR Code can be placed on the retail pack (Primary or Secondary as the case may be) at a suitable place where on scanning the QR code by scanning equipment like mobile phones, a web link or link for opening the URL of the Manufacturing company will appear, on pressing or clicking of which, will take the user to the entire unique information of label and leaflet. The QR code shall contain at least the following information namely: - (a) Unique Identifier or GTIN (b) Batch Number (c) Date of Manufacturing (d) Date of Expiry (e) Web link/URL (3) in Note II: in the second line of the third para after the words “minimum size”, the following words shall be inserted “provided that the size of pictograms shall be half-square centimeter (0.5 cm x 0.5 cm) in respect of labels of ultra-small packs only” The Draft rules shall be taken into consideration before the expiry of the period of thirty days from the date on which copies of the official Gazette in which the notification is published are made available to the public.
