Order of the Kerala High Court regarding adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccination, 10/08/2022
The Kerala High Court directed the central government and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to hasten the process of formulating guidelines for disbursement of compensation to the families of people who died due to the adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccination in the country.
Counsel representing the government of India submitted that a detailed statement, containing the steps so far taken for formulating the guidelines and the time limit within which the guidelines will be implemented, will be placed on record within two weeks.
The High Court, August 10, 2022 was hearing the case of Sayeeda K A vs Union of India - WP(C) No. 17628 of 2022(C).
The petitioner, a resident of Kochi, Ernakulam district, Kerala lost her husband Abdul Nazar following the administering of the COVID-19 vaccine in August 2021.
The counsel for the petitioner requested the court that the process of formulating the guidelines need to be hastened since the family members of the victims like the petitioner are facing extreme difficulties consequent to the death of the earning member in the family.
