Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding encroachment of Yamuna floodplain, 10/12/2021
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Behari Lal Chaturvedi Vs Ministry of Jal Shakti & Others dated 10/12/2021.
Grievance in the application is against alleged encroachment of Yamuna floodplain by Yamuna Mission, Mathura. It is stated that though ostensibly acting to preserve and clean river Yamuna and undertaking plantation drive, in the garb of such activities, Yamuna floodplain is being encroached. The applicant has filed photographs showing construction on the ghats and copies of complaints made to the authorities.
The NGT directed a factual and action taken report from a joint Committee of CPCB, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, District Magistrate, Mathura and Executive Engineer, Upper Division, Agra Canal. The report has to be furnished within two months.
