Report by the Department of Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh on steps to prevent discharge of untreated sewage into river Sai, Pratapgarh, 08/06/2021
Report by the Department of Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh in Original Application No. 490 of 2019 (T.S. Singh Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others). The matter pertains to the prevention of discharge of untreated sewage into river Sai at Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
In compliance with the NGT order, October 7, 2020, the Department of Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh filed an updated action taken report before the court.
The report informed the NGT that the Pratapgarh Sewerage Scheme was sanctioned in the year 2009-10. Substantial work of construction of 8.95 MLD STP including installation of electrical and mechanical equipment was successfully completed in the year 2013 however power connection and other ancillary works of the STP are impeded since 2013 due to diversion of funds to other works for which an FIR has already been lodged against the erroneous officials.
A total of 4 drains, namely Police line drain, Bholiyapur drain, Sadar drain, and Ram Leela Maidan drain, having a total discharge of 7.7 MLD, are being discharged into the river Sai. However, no direct discharges of the
untreated drains are made into the water body as the drains are first treated by the means of bio-remediation. This treatment has been followed since March 2020.
