  • 24/10/2019

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Madan Singh & Others Vs Union of India & Others dated 24/10/2019 regarding raising of water level in Sardar Sarovar reservoir and rehabilitation of project affected families.

The Apex Court referred to its earlier order passed in September 18, 2019 where the counsel for the petitioners had agreed that if the "High Level Committee/Review Committee meets and takes a decision about the maintenance of the water level and for rehabilitation of the project affected families" then it would be acceptable.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Union of India, Narmada Control Authority and the State of Gujarat has agreed that they would conduct the Review Committee meetings "as per Clause XIV, Subclause 14 of the Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal Award." The Committee would meet and take a decision about the water level as well as rehabilitation issues involved in the matter.

The SC directed the Review Committee to expeditiously hold the meetings to resolve the matter.
