Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding use of foreshore land for drying fish, village Erangal, Madh Island,Mumbai, Maharashtra, 24/09/2019
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Pradip Chintaman Gharat & Others Vs State of Maharashtra & Others dated 24/09/2019 regarding use of foreshore land bearing Survey No. 134 in village Erangal, Madh Island, Mumbai for drying fish. It is alleged that the said activity causes air pollution and is also against the Development Control Regulations for Greater Mumbai and CRZ notification.
The NGT asks for a report from a joint Committee comprising of the Collector, Mumbai Suburbon District, the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA), the Municipal Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Greater Bombay and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to look into the matter and verify on the factual aspect. "If the allegations are found to be correct, appropriate action be initiated in accordance with law for mitigation of the environment," the order said. The MCZMA shall be the nodal agency for co-ordination and providing logistics and a report filed within one month.
