A white paper on livelihoods - Goa
A white paper on income prepared by Goa Livelihoods Forum, a non-profit organisation, has pointed out that while closure of mines in Goa has led to a drastic dip in savings of households involved in the industry, the state's high per capita income has restricted a large number of people from availing government welfare schemes. Charudatta Panigraha of the forum told reporters that the paper, for which 3,500 adults were surveyed covering all talukas of Goa, offers possibilities of policy and implementation interventions and can help brace the state to tackle the growth imperatives for the next generations. The white paper stated that there has been over 40% reduction in income levels of the people following mining closure, a situation, it said, that is not restricted to mining areas alone.
