Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of M/S Saswad Mali Sugar Factory Ltd. Vs Nilkanth Rajaram Raskar & Others dated 15/02/2019 regarding Saswad Mali Sugar Factory operating without consent from SPCB in Malinagar, Maharashtra.
The National Green Tribunal had imposed damages on the sugar factory on the ground that it had operated the distillery from 1 September 2016 to 15 February 2018 in the absence of consent from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. The Supreme Court justified the imposition of damages by way of environmental compensation.
