Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of M. C. Mehta Vs Union of India dated 26/11/2018 regarding closure of non permissible industries operating in residential and non conforming areas in Delhi.
The 49th Progress Report of the Monitoring Committee states that directions have been issued to close 21960 non permissible industries operating in residential and non conforming areas. It is further stated that there are about 30,000 similar units which are operating illegally in residential and non conforming areas. They are also required to be closed down and their water and electricity supply is also required to be disconnected. Counsel on behalf of the Monitoring Committee submits before the Court that these 30,000 non conforming units will also be closed down within 8 weeks. Supreme Court grants eight weeks’ time for taking necessary steps as postulated.
