Integrating renewable energy modelling with power sector planning for India: production and reliability simulations for 2022
This study showcases an integrated resource planning exercise for the power sector integrating renewable energy resources with the current power sector planning framework. It proposes strategies that can be implemented by the Central Government and State Governments to optimize power sector plans and minimize the cost of renewable energy integration into the grid. Traditionally, the electricity generation in India has been dominated by conventional fuels. With the increasing focus on clean growth, India plans to incorporate a total of 175 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2022. This is expected to be account for around 37% of the installed power generation capacity in 2022. The successful operation of such a large quantum of variable renewable energy capacity can only be possible if renewable energy is integrated into the grid in a smooth and effective manner.
