Clearing the Air: Pollution-control technology for coal-based power plants
Technologies to control particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides emissions are mature. They are being used across the world for a range of coal quality and operating conditions. Many large-scale manufacturers, including BHEL, Mitsubishi and GE-Alstom, are supplying the technologies to meet the new standards. In this report, we provide an overview of the various technological options based on the size and vintage of units, required emission levels that need to be achieved, indicative range of investment needed and installation time required. The two most important parameters to decide what pollution-control options are most appropriate are age and size of the unit.
