ADVENTURE LEARNING
The paradox of much education all over the world has long been its inability to directly involve the world outside classrooms."What I did in school was stare out of the window,' recalls Will Steger. The famous Polar explorer and environmentalist has continued to be drawn out of windows throughout his life. In 1986, he led the first unsupported dog sledge expedition to the North Pole. But before that, the Minnesota, US-based explorer became a science teacher; he maintains that teaching has remained his primary purpose. It was on an Antarctica expedition in 1989 that he came up with an idea to integrate his own adventures (and environmentalist concerns) into classrooms.

Back in those days, though, classrooms had little internet knowledge or access. As Steger has continued to develop and hone his own vision of "adventure learning', worldwide communications abilities steamrolled ahead. The site www.polarhusky.com
